I have an existing Gmail account with a primary email address; however I would like to be able to add a new primary email address to existing gmail account. How is this done or where can I go to find more information on this topic? Would I have to cancel exisiting account and start with new account?

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS:
After spending a couple hours trying to figure out how to set-up a 2nd. email username or address linked to my primary email acct. I think step-by-step instructions are in order. Otherwise what you get is piece meal -- a little bit here and a little bit there, leaving you to try to figure out what they're talking about.
The first thing you have to do is go to the gmail sign-in page. Sign out of your existing (primary) acct. If you have it set to automatically fill-in your sign-in info, delete it in those boxes so they are blank.
Below the sign-in box there is a link to create an acct. click on it.
This will open a page to open a new gmail acct. as if you didn't already have one.
FIll it out. Where it asks for "Recovery email", enter your existing (original & primary) gmail email address.
Tip: If you want to access and send email with this username/email address from your primary acct. a simple way to assign a new username and password to this new acct. is to use the ones assigned to your primary acct and add a number to the end.
ie: primary acct. username: xyz...@gmail.com 2nd. acct. username: xyz...@gmail.com
When this acct. is set up and you've signed-into it to verify the acct. is ready to go............sign out of it.
Go back to the sign-in page and sign-into your primary acct. You should find an email advising you your 2nd email address has been set up. It will provide a "verification code". Be sure to copy and save that email and the code information. You may need it in the future.
While still in your primary email acct., click on the "Settings" link in the upper right corner.
Once in settings, click on the link for "Accounts and Imports".
The 2nd. section is "Send mail as" that's the one you want to use.
Click on button for "Send mail from another address".
When that window opens, fill in the information from your 2nd. username/email address.
This will allow you to send email from your primary acct. /email address as if it were coming from your 2nd. acct./email address.
Once you've done that, there is also a choice provided in the "Send mail as" section to have your mail go out from your default username (usually your primary email acct.) or from the username that the email was sent to. Select how you want your username (email address) to read on outgoing email.
For ex: I wanted to be able to read & respond to email from my primary acct. regardless which email address (username) the email was sent to. If an email was sent to my 2nd. email address, I wanted the response to appear to come from that username/ address. Therefore, I selected the top choice: "Reply from the same address the message was sent to"
Your second email acct/address will be sent a confirmation email with a special code to confirm this is what you want to do. You need to sign out of your primary acct, and sign-in to your 2nd. acct. Copy and save that email. Click on the link to confirm that you want to send email from your primary acct. with this username.
Ok. Now you have two accts./email addresses set up and can send email for both from your primary acct.
The next thing you want to do is set up your 2nd. acct. so that all your email will be forwarded to your primary email address. Once this is set-up , you will not have to go back and forth between the two email accts. to access or send mail.
You need to sign-out of your primary acct. and sign-into your 2nd. email acct. Go to "Settings".
Click on "Forwarding and POP/IMAP". The first section is "Forwarding" .
Click on "Add a forwarding address"
A little pop-up will appear. FIll-in the email address of your primary email acct. This will forward all the email received in this new acct. to your primary acct. Click on next and follow instructions.
Now, sign-out of your 2nd. email address and sign-in to your primary email acct. You will find an email requesting your okay to receive email forwarded from your 2nd. email address.
Copy and save that email.. Click on the link to confirm your permission.
When you want to send an email, you'll find on the top of the "compose" page, a drop down menu where you can choose which email address you want shown on your outgoing email.
Now... all emails sent to your new email identity/address will automatically be forwarded to your original/primary email address. You will be able to respond to those emails, file them away or do whatever you want within your primary email acct.
For all intent and purpose, as long as you want to keep it this way, you will never have to sign-in to your second email identity/address again.
If, however, you want to only forward some of your emails... well, I think that's when you have to set up a filter (whatever that is), instead of as I've outlined above. You're on your own figuring that one out!

What I did was go thru the whole sign up process--as if I did not already have a perfectly successful GMail account . Nowhere in the process was I flagged to admit I was already on board with an account. I have ended up with two (2) Gmail addresses. The first one I will continue to use with my friends, and the second I will use for my business only. Here's the cumbersome aspect: I must sign in separately to each- I place a short-cut on my desk top for the new one but am directed to the old one wherein I have to change the sign in address and password to the new GMail . Both Icons which I have on the desktop should have the capability to direct me separately into each GMail address-plus you would think I should have some way of toggling back and forth between the two???? Add your second account name as POPmail to your primary account and the two will be accessible through one sign in. You'll be able to toggle between them and send email from either account and will receive all emails in one spot.

I added my second account name as POPmail to my primary account but get the message in both places now. How are you able to toggle between the two accounts? I have the same sign on issue that Bob does (I have to change the sign in address and type in the password to the new GMail) and have not been able to figure out a way to toggle back and forth.

I have been trying to create another gmail account and it keeps going back to "re-enter your preferred password"? I have not made any typos and keep entering the same password. It still has not created the account. Any ideas? Thank you in advance

This is how you do it (assuming you already have at least one other gmail account) .

1 ---- open a new gmail account as you usually do.
2 ---- Add the new account as a POP3 to the existing old account, so you receive your new emails.
3 ---- Gmail allows you to send emails from different accounts and this is done: under Account and imports, you can add the new email address as (Send mail from another address "FROM" option). Now you should be able to send and receive the two email accounts from one place. And Gmail is smart, it know which email account is sending your email when you hit reply.
4 --- Just to separate those two emails, I created a separate folder where I move the new emails periodically. There might be a direct way to force those new emails to just go to that folder. But I have not looked into that :-)

What you can do is go to settings, click on the "Accounts and Import" tab, and then add your second gmail account under "Send mail as". Once you verify that you own the other account you can send messages as if you were either account. Then you would just need to set up a filter on your "secondary" account that forwards all incoming mail to your primary account. After you do this, you would never need to sign in to your secondary account again, as all the emails will be in your primary account's inbox, and you can change the email that your recipients see in the "From:" field to whichever account you want.

I liked this answer but can't get around the fact that after I added my new email address and clicked "verify," gmail cleverly sent the verification email to the new address, which isn't operational until verified! How can I get around this?

Similar to the case of pfgNault I have 2 gmail addresses but the only difference is that the second address was obtained after closing the fist one. The first one had t be closed when I closed my blog which contained a political satire which wuld have lead to harrasment by none others than my neighbours. However i cannot restart the blog which I have closed as I do not know the procedure.Will someone guide me.?

How do you avoid a build up of emails in your old account?

2. Verified New account to send from both addresses: Check
3. Email downloading to new gmail account: Check
Problem: emails are duplicated. They are on both accounts still. I have unchecked the box "leave messages on server".
Any answers? I don't like the forwarding option because then the emails come from me, so reply sends them back to me.

Whats the difference between getting emails from the second account using POP (when in your primary account) and forwarding? The POP seems to work except that it only polls the other account once an hour or so. I end up waiting and waiting for my emails from the secondary account.

Wonder why Google cannot their single subject material on a single page?!!!
Should be a simple matter of creating a secondary or third account and having 3 or 4 options as to how you want to forward the emails that come to it, and something to click on to take you directly to a compose page that allows you to immediately compose an email in that 2nd or 3rd email account. All the rest should be 'hidden and automatic' i.e. Pop3 stuff or whatever. Would you not agree?

In all of these posts referring to 'set up another gmail account' to add another email address, are we talking adding a gmail account or a Google Apps account? My first email is in Google Apps and I want to add two associates with their own new gmail addresses but want to use our GoDaddy domain name. Does this mean setting up two new Google Apps accounts with new emails each?

I have tried nearly 6 times to create a new gmail account but everytime I try it tells me that I "need to meet certain age requirements" I'm 25 and this is pissing me off, and no I didn't enter the date incorrectly.

I thought ricrac had my solution, but it seems not. I have a gmail account for non-business matters. My business contacts have my email address which is a forwarding service. That service forwards my business mail to my ISP email address, which I access on Apple Mail. I've had it with my ISP's terrible service, so I would like to set up a second gmail address to which my business mail gets forwarded.
I copied and followed ricrac's instructions.
*Signed off from my existing account.
*Clicked the button to create an account.
*Page opened for new gmail account.
*Filled out the form.
There was no "Recovery email" box into which I could enter my existing gmail address.
The first box asked for my existing email address. I tried entering the new one I wanted to create, but I got an error saying that address did not exist.
I tried entering my existing gmail address, but was rejected because I already had an account!
FYI, I am accessing Google's secure website, which the home page identifies as Google Beta.
Two things I don't understand:
1. Why doesn't this work?
2. I was under the impression that Google allows me to have up to 10 gmail addresses. Am I mistaken?
3. Why does it take over an hour searching Google Help with no success, only to find the answer (maybe) on a user forum page, when it's obvious that many Google fans (and I'm a big fan) are trying to accomplish this.
4. Perhaps off topic for this question, but looking at the POP/IMAP forum suggests that there are lots of people who are having headaches using Apple Mail to access their gmail. If that's true, perhaps this is not my hoped-for solution. Any experienced agreement/ disagreement out there?
